Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Moche, Loma Negra, ca. 100 BCE to 100 CE. Rare and desirable copper finial that once adorned an atl atl. Note how his head is turned over his shoulder looking at you. Anthropomorphic / human looking. These weapons were used by the native tribes to hurl spears at greater volocity than was possible simply through a throwing motion. Copper in the form of a standing jaguar. Size: 2"H x 2"W.
Provenance: Ex-private Westermann collection Germany, acquired between 1950 and 1960.
