Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. This Inca axe head, made of basalt or another hardstone, is undecorated and therefore may have been used in actual combat rather than ceremonially. The blade edge is extremely blunt and the weapon may have been used more as a clubbing instrument towards the end of its useful life than as an axe. Size: 4-1/2"L x 3-1/4"L.
Provenance: Ex-private Mcdonald collection, Houston TX, acquired at local gallery or at auction between 1982 and 1994.

Condition
The axe head is intact. There is minor wear to one of the arms and the edges are rounded. The blade edge has been damaged and is extremely blunt.
