Description
Pre-Columbian, central Peru to northern Chile, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. Tall and quite exceptional large drinking chalice made of a copper-silver alloy. Although showing a high concentration of copper, the color and patina point to perhaps an equal part silver to copper mix. Slightly flared base filled with rattling stones, lower 40% of the vessel decorated with 11 rows of raised circular "stars", upper section reserved save 5 rows of multiple incised linear bands. A most handsome and rare example! Size: 9-1/4" H.
