Description
English, 18th century (Mid-Georgian, 1745-1780). An English stained walnut wood ribbon-back armchair in the Chippendale style popular from around 1745-1780, the oxbow-shaped crest decorated with central pierced astragal motif terminating in acanthus-carved ears, surmounting three conforming ribbon-form slats, the curved arms resting on cyma-curved supports, joined by a trapezoidal seat upholstered in red-brown leather, the seat rail decorated with a double nailhead trim, raised on square legs and splayed back legs joined by an H-shaped stretcher. Approximate height 38.25", width 25", depth 20", seat to floor 17.5". Provenance: From the Estate of Henry G. Muecke Jr., Atlanta, Georgia.
