Description
Likely Persian, 19th century, possibly earlier. A heavy and large cast bronze lidded censer, the round base surmounted by dual opposing figural monkeys with bananas in hand feeding themselves and with winding tails to circular base, above their heads a round basket form acting as censer bowl adorned to exterior with figural scorpions, snails, and bird heads, the wooden lid with narrow foot, bulbous body and narrow neck decorated with bronze banding and a figural elephant finial at top. Unmarked. Overall approximately 30" tall, 13" diameter at base.
