This ceramic figure represents a scholar or Daoist patron saint and comes from China. The bright earthenware has been glazed in brown and shows a polychromatic glaze. The partially open-worked figure is seated in his red-yellow robe on a pedestal. In his left hand the scholar is holding a green fan. This piece is s so-called Shiwan Ware a type of ceramic, fired in Shiwan kilns. These kilns came from Shiwan, Southern-China in the Ming Period.
The ceramic figure shows signs of age and wear, such as breakages on the foot, the fingers and the hair. The height is 21 cm.
