This French mantle clock was built in the Louis XVI style and dates to the time around 1880. The movement executes a half-hour strike on bell. The clock face is made of alabaster and shows a Roman index made of metal plates. The casing is composed of a gilded metal cast with finely gilded zinc cast applications. It is placed onto an alabaster plinth. The clock is flanked by the figure of a young woman and two small birds. The clock is delivered with a separate wooden base and a key winding.
The mantle clock shows traces of age and use. The gilding is slightly rubbed. The zinc cast applications are partially broken or loose. The alabaster plate at the front side shows a small material loss at the lower right corner. Five numbers of the Roman index are missing. The overall dimensions of the casing are 41 x 36 x 16.5 cm (height x width x depth). The separate wooden base shows small traces of age and use. It measures 5 x 38 x 19.5 cm (height x width x depth). The movement may be revised before using. (cbo)
