Ivory Corn Cob Cane-Ca. 1880-Vertical and elongated ivory handle carved to depict a corn cob with whorl of husk, attached kernels and emerging silk, exceptionally well figured snake wood shaft with a metal collar and ferrule. The cane aged well with the fitly warm and glazed patina to its handle.-In terms of symbolic significance, maize holds very much the same meaning as other similar foods. Condition
The ivory Loxodonta Africana in this cane complies with pre-cites and the Endangered Species Act 1973 which are currently the law in the United States. It is our opinion that this cane was made before 1973 and the ivory has not been repaired or altered.
