Description
Philippines, probably Ifugao, 20th century CE. Hand-carved wooden spoons, each figural handle in the form of a standing human, one with a concave ladle, the other a concave large spoon. One depicts a female with nubbin breasts; the other is of less decisive gender and wears metal wire cuff bracelets. Both are depicted with hands placed upon thighs and elongated, vertical tapering headdresses. Size: ladle measures 7-1/2"L; spoon measures 8-3/8"L.
Provenance: Ex-private Denver, CO collection acquired at NY Auction House; ex-private CA collection, acquired more than 25 years ago.
