Description
WE SHIP!! The AEAA is exceptionally pleased to present this lot that represents an original heavy rolled tin lithograph beer tray ca. 1905 Vienna Art plate with a rare & spectacular portrait transfer of the fabled Duchess Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Queen of Prussia. She was the heroine who debased herself in front of Napoleon, to try and save her people. The interesting scarf around the right neck was necessary, as she had an unsightly goiter, and neither appeared in public nor for portraits without it covered. This brilliant tray features hand gilded neo-classical dolphins & fountain florals images. Our litho of Queen Louisa portrait was copied from an early, legitimate Royal Vienna porcelain plate. Our tray this was patented by Vienna Art Plate on Feb. 21,1905, and is in excellent condition, with 1 small background scratch. It weighs 8 oz., measuring 10 x 10 x .5 inches deep. This wonderful heirloom is from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford, noted dealers and lifelong collectors of valuable antiques. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.Since the late 19th century, beer trays featuring company advertisements have been produced for both home and public use. The earliest printed beer trays were created by the Tuscarora Advertising Company of Coshocton, Ohio, around 1895. Breweries could either commission a unique design or use one of Tuscarora’s stock images tailored to include their logo, bottle design, and other specific details. In direct competition with Tuscarora was the Standard Advertising Company, also of Coshocton, which quickly began printing its own lithographed tin trays. The Meek Co. soon followed in the same city, pushing hard for the premium to buyers advertising market. Both of these manufacturers identified their work with their name and a copyright date along the tray's lower rim. These vintage Art Tray Brewery serving trays were generally made between the years 1900 and 1925. These were used in pubs and also sold as a premium to customers, and carried names such as Royal Saxony, Royal Vienna.
