Description
Specifications:
150bhp, 177.7 cu. in., overhead valve inline six-cylinder engine, four-speed manual gearbox, independent front suspension with live rear axle, Girling front disc brakes and rear drums.
Wheelbase: 92" Motoring enthusiasts on both sides of the Atlantic fell in love with the 3000 from the very beginning. Road & Track called it "an enthusiast's sports car that was fun to drive with lots of performance and good handling and braking characteristics." A subsequent review of the Mark III by the British magazine, The Autocar, spoke prophetically, "tractable, capable of an immense amount of hard work with reasonable economy, it will still have its devotees long after production has ceased."The 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 MKIII Sports Convertible presented here in light metallic green is a matching numbers example with a BHIMT certificate. It was treated to a complete frame-off restoration by the marque specialists at Healey Lane of Riverside, California specifically for presentation at this auction. Two-stage urethane was used in two separate paint applications to give the exterior colors extreme depth and luster. The interior is upholstered in the traditional black amblia with chrome piping. Not just a cosmetic restoration, the entire car was mechanically addressed. The original engine, transmission and rear end were rebuilt and all the ancillary systems were overhauled, including the suspension, the brakes, the exhaust and the fuel delivery system. The interior was reupholstered, the original steering wheel was refurbished and a new walnut dash was fitted with the original yet rebuilt gauges. Full photo documentation of the restoration accompanies the sale of this car. As a tribute to the quality and confidence of Healey Lane, the BJ8 is being offered with a drivetrain warranty by the restorer. (For details regarding the conditions of the warranty please contact an RM Specialist prior to the auction or onsite during the sale). The Mark III BJ8 features twin SU two-inch HD8 carburetors; it produces 150 brake horsepower and has a top speed of over 120mph. It would be an excellent candidate for a challenging 1,000-mile event, or for a weekend jaunt to the local British car show or club meet. Whatever the next owner chooses, this fine example is guaranteed not to disappoint, as no amount of money could buy a better restoration.
