Item Details
Description
Specifications:
180hp, 308 cu. in. L-head inline six-cylinder engine with Twin H Power dual carburetors and dual manifold induction system, dual Range Hydramatic automatic transmission, independent front suspension with rear leaf springs, and four-wheel drum brakes.
Wheelbase: 124" Hudsons have been credited with being among the first to introduce numerous important advances in automotive design, including the " step down" body style introduced in 1948 - now an industry standard. Claiming 10 of 11 stock car Grand Nationals in 1952 alone, "The Fabulous Hudson Hornet" dominated American racing through the mid-1950s, strongly contributing to its tremendous commercial success. One of only 500 produced in 1951, the lovely example offered here is painted burgundy with dark red leather interior and black power convertible top. Its visual presence is augmented by a gorgeous set of dual spotlights, power windows, and extensive, well-maintained brightwork. Acquired from Oregon 15 years ago by its previous owner, the car was rust-free, straight, in good running condition, but required a body-off restoration, which was completed approximately 12 years ago. The entire drivetrain, chassis, braking system, top mechanism, and all other mechanical components were refinished, remanufactured or replaced, using only the finest materials. Since its restoration, the vehicle has been housed in a climate-controlled showroom, seeing only token road use on a planned schedule so as to properly preserve all seals and other drive train and chassis elements. Consequently, the car has accumulated approximately 1,600 dry-weather miles (only about 50 miles in the last two years) far from any saltwater body. The odometer currently reads 61,250. The addition of a high compression " 262" cylinder head, larger than stock stainless steel valves and a mild competition camshaft elevate power output to 180 horsepower, compared to the respective 160 and 145 horsepower outputs of a regular Twin H Power and single carburetion setup.Equipped with full leather interior, quality carpeting, power windows, and GM's Dual Range Hydramatic transmission, this Hornet is also in excellent operating condition, with all systems performing properly. Paintwork, brightwork, engine, and engine bay are all show condition, while the interior shows little to no wear. All tools, spare wheel and tire, and manuals are present. This classic Twin H Power Convertible is one of the most desirable cars of the period and is worthy of close inspection, as the cost of duplicating such a comprehensive restoration far exceeds the auction estimate.
