Description
ROLLAND ROMAIN: (1866-1944) French Dramatist & Novelist, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1915. A very fine A.L.S., Romain Rolland, two pages, 8vo, Geneva, 17th November 1915, to L. Lavater, in French, on the printed stationery of the Hotel Beau-Sejour at Geneve-Champel. Rolland refers to one of his celebrated works Jean-Christophe and mentions `I think that if the text repetition don´t break too much the chapter motion, it wouldn´t be useless to present the two versions, because among your German speaking audience there will be for sure a small minority of French audience. And even if there were only ten, it would be untoward if they don´t understand the meaning of the poem.´ The author further explains in a very interesting report the reason why he thinks so. Accompanied by the original hand written envelope. VG. £150-200
