ALEXANDROVICH ALEXEI: (1850-1908) Russian Grand Duke, son of Tsar Alexander II. A.L.S., Alexis, one page, 8vo, n.p. [St. Petersburg], Saturday, to a Countess Lannes de Montebello, in French. The Grand Duke invites his correspondent for dinner at home after the spectacle, asking her to forgive his late message. With blank integral leaf. VG £100-150
Madeleine Guillemin (1853-1930) Countess of Lannes de Montebello as spouse of Count Gustave Lannes de Montebello (1838-1907), grandson of French Marshal Jean Lannes (1769-1809). Count Gustave was appointed Ambassador of France to Saint Petersburg from 1891, and was very close to the Romanov Imperial family. At his request, Nicholas II acted in 1901 as godfather of his first grandson.
