Description
David Livingstone (1813-1873) Scottish missionary, explorer. Livingstone sailed from Scotland to South Africa as a Christian missionary. He spent much of the next 33 years traveling in the African interior, eventually becoming as famous for his explorations as for his missionary work. Perhaps his most famous act was reaching and naming Victoria Falls in 1855. In 1871 journalist Henry Stanley tracked down the explorer in Africa, greeting him with the famous words "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" " 4 ½" x 7", four page, autograph letter signed, blind-embossed Newstead Abbey, October 31, 1864, to R.M. Smith. "…I am very busy at another book…visited the house of an African friend who does everything to aid in his powers…If you still look on the subject in the same light I shall feel obligated by a note…."
