“Sujet Poisson", conceived in 1952
red earthenware turned pitcher, painted surface in black and white
inscribed on the underside 'Edition Picasso Madoura’, also imprinted 'Edition Picasso’, and with 'Madoura Plein Feu’ stamps, in 1962 executed in an edition of 500; Ramié 139.
Height 5.5 in., Width 9 in., Depth 4 in.
Provenance: A Private Collection, New York, NY, purchased in 1965
Cf. Picasso's earthenware fish-form pitcher, Sujet Poisson" was originally produced in 1952, Madoura Pottery, Vallauris, France. It was in 1962 executed as a multiple in an edition of 500.
Also, "Picasso Painter and Sculptor in Clay”, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, March 1999 - June 1999, published, Harry N. Abrams Inc.
