Description
No S/N, dated 1855 with shoulder stock, .58 caliber,12" round barrel, bright metal finish, walnut stocks, pistol-carbine designed to fire the newly introduced .58 caliber expanding base bullet (any ball) and was fitted with the Maynard tape primer adapted for the 1855 series of weapons, the bolster is equipped with a clean out screw, barrel fitted with steel swivel ramrod, lockplate dated 1855 behind hammer and marked "U.S." ahead of the bolster, Springfield eagle and shield motif marked on primer door, barrel tang dated 1855 with letters V/P eagle head proof, top of barrel marked P.H.T., buttcap stamped with "12", stock yoke stamped "1", heel of butt plate stamped "U.S.", blade front sight and 2 rear sights graduated to 400 yards, barrel band trigger guard attached to stock yoke, swing swivel mount and butt plate are brass.
Condition
Good, pistol has smooth gray patina with light markings and pressure dents opposite bolster, overall brass has patina, both pistol and carbine stock have dents, scratches and pressure marks, pistol stock has 2 professional repairs on each side of trigger guard which were wood replacement, pistol-carbine very good mechanically.
