GENTS COURT SUIT with ORDER of the GARTER MOTTO BUTTONS, 1840. Black broadcloth having black velvet band collar and wide cuff decorated with gold and silver metallic embroidery and sequins, seamed at waist, vented tails with pleat and pocket, brass buttons with crest and motto "Honi soit qui mal y pense", backmark "G. Pitt & Co. 50 St. Martins Lane". Museum tag "Wm Shimin worn at French Court". Cream wool button fly breeches having watch pocket and suspender buttons, knee band with gilt buckle and three crest buttons. Ch-40, Sh-16, Slv-24, L-36, W-30, inseam 17 1/2. (Silk lining stained and torn, old repairs, slight wear to cuffs, breeches scattered moth holes) very good.
