Description

Three Ovoid Stoneware Jugs, Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1790-1845, a two-gallon jug with cobalt butterfly decoration, stamped "JULIUS NORTON / BENNINGTON VT; a two-gallon jug with slip-trailed cobalt watchspring decoration within a wavy border, probably New Jersey origin; and a three-gallon jug with cobalt drape decoration, Manhattan, NY origin. Norton jug missing handle, with a shallow spout chip, inscribed "FOSTER" in black marker on reverse. Watchspring jug with several cracks descending from spout and a chip on interior of spout. Manhattan jug with large network of tight cracks, primarily to reverse, a small chip to underside at edge, staining, and a large contact mark to front near base.
