Description
One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, probably Samuel Wilson for the John P. Schermerhorn Pottery, Richmond, VA, circa 1817-1837, ovoid jar with applied lug handles and thin, semi-rounded rim, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed circular floral design. Brushed cobalt highlights along the edges of the handles. The early-style, open-centered floral motif on this jar indicates it may have been made by Samuel Wilson for the Schermerhorn Pottery. Large spider crack to side. Some crazing to surface. Two small, adjacent rim chips. Two other small rim chips.
