Description
Lacquer technique with gold. Japan, 18th cent.
Four-leveled inro with circular finest lacquer painting - partly in takamaki-e – depicting the main die symbol for "long life" - red-crested cranes and pines. Very animated and exactly crafted are these birds, tancho tsuru, on one side three are flying, on the other they are standing. The inro ground is fundame with gold, the inside is completely designed with golden nashiji. Some bumps on the lowest edge. The ojime (cord fastener) is of horn and spherical, with finest inset ribbed barrettes of metal.
