Description
Newcomb hand thrown wall plaque with peacock feather decoration done in 1915 by an unknown artist. Incised and painted in shades of blue, green and cream, the piece has two pierced holes on the back side for hanging. Marked with the Newcomb College logo, the date code for 1915 (HE 38), the impressed initials of potter Joseph Meyer and an A in a circle indicating a type of clay body. Diameter is 8 1/4 inches. Excellent original condition with strong composition and color. Pictured in Ormond and Irvine, "Louisiana's Art Nouveau The Crafts of the Newcomb Style" on page 109. A copy of this rare book accompanies the plaque.
