Description
Rome, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A heavy deep purple / amethyst ancient glass lion head applique mounted into a modern 20K gold pendant mount created by a noted European goldsmith. The glass applique was perhaps made for attachment at the base of a pitcher handle. Size: 1-1/2"L x 1"W.
Provenance: Acquired in the early 1970s by the present owner from an old French collection.
