A fine stone oil lamp from the Indus Valley, ca. 3rd - 2nd Millennium BC. This superbly detailed example is 4 in long and is carved from blue-gray chlorite characteristic of this region. The sides of this leaf-shaped lamp are decorated with petals, even the rim and underside have nicely carved design elements. Rare type, with strong mineral encrustation. Ex Birch estate.
