Description
A pair of Ghandaran stone oil lamps from the Indus Valley, ca. 100 - 300 AD. The first is a beautifully crafted example 3-3/8 in square and and is carved from the blue-green chlorite characteristic of the region. It is decorated with circular and linear designs on the widely flared rim. The second is 4 in in diameter and is carved from red sand stone with an undercut rim showing extensive usage. Both have strong mineral encrustation. Ex Birch estate.
