Item Details
Description
Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. This is a bronze brooch with an openwork "D" design with small flourishes. Brooches -- also known as fibulae -- are some of the most common bronze artifacts associated with Europe from the Bronze Age on to the medieval period. Unsurprisingly, many of these Roman examples are known from Roman Britain, where the climate makes the wearing of heavy cloaks desirable. Size: 1-1/4" L x 1" W (3.2 cm x 2.5 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Private New York Collection
