Item Details
Description
Graeco-Roman world, Ptolemaic Egypt, ca. 300 to 260 BCE; Rome, early Imperial Period ca. 50 to 120 CE; and probably Rome, later Imperial Period, ca. 364 to 450 CE. This is a mixed collection of coins. The two depicting eagles on their observe sides are from Ptolemaic Egypt. The largest appears to have a laureate head of Zeus -- it is certainly a bearded man with flowing hair. The thick one with the beardless bust is probably from early Imperial Rome and resembles coins from the reign of Trajan (98 to 117 CE). The smallest looks like a late Imperial AE4 coin, minted as the Roman world had become more chaotic and access to precious metals less certain. Size of largest: 1-4/5" W (4.6 cm).
