Description
American Renaissance Revival Wooten Desk Company Walnut Rotary Desk, late 19th century, the top with a molded edge and inset writing surface, over a band of three drawers, each pedestal end with a paneled door opening to reveal a rotary mechanism fitted with niches, one side with square compartments retaining their cardboard pull-out drawers, the other with vertical and horizontal niches, the sides and back fitted with panels, mounted with a brass plaque reading "Wooten Rotary Desk Patented", h. 31", w. 60-1/2", d. 33-1/8".
Condition
In good, original "as found" condition. The piece exhibits normal mars, wear, small surface imperfections and other indications of age and use, most notably wear around the perimeter edges of the top, and some paint smudges at the base of one corner. Tight and very solid. The finish is old and appears to be original. The inset writing surface exhibits wear, some cracking/crazing, scattered light discoloration, and a few pencil-diameter voids. All locks are present and appear to be original. Keys are not present. The narrower upper drawers flanking the central drawer are missing their interior dividers. The bottom of one of those drawers is missing about 3-1/2" across its length. The right rotary section retains all its cardboard pull-out drawers. The other side is fitted with niches.
