Description
George III Sterling Tea Caddy in The Chinoiserie Taste. The sides of the square form with repousse medallions of a Chinoiserie figure picking fruit or a stylized Asian shrine within rocaille brackets, the cover cast with a scallop thumb piece, base with London hallmarks for 1814 and WP maker's mark. circa 1814. Total silver weight 20.5 troy oz; dimensions 5 1/8 x 4 x 3 3/4 inches (13 x 10 x 9.5 cm). Provenance: Descended to present day in the family of Sophia Andrade Cohen, whose husband is credited with first printing of playing cards.
