Signed by Russell on the limitation page, as issued. First published in 1857, described in The Zamorano Eighty as "one of the rare pieces of Californiana...published in pamphlet form by `Ned' McGowan, one-time justice of the peace in San Francisco, and an ex-convict from Pennsylvania, as a vindication of his conduct in absconding after being accused of complicity in the murder of James King of William...." Adams says that this edition is "line for line, page for page from the original edition complete with reproductions, in facsimile, of the original illustrations, cover-page title and title page" and calls it scarce.
