Description
Preprinted sheriff's document, Rockingham County, 1815. Details of particular case hand written and signed by Wentworth Cheswill Justice of the Peace. A very clean signature by such an important figure in American history and the Revolutionary war. Cheswill was a bi-racial citizen of N.H. and considered to be the first African-American to hold public office. He was a contemporary of Paul Revere and as a patriot, participated in the activities of warning the towns that the British were coming. He was also in the party that built rafts to defend Portsmouth Harbor. Condition excellent.
