Description
William James Aylward (American, 1875-1956), "SS Donald McKay", oil on canvas, signed lower right "W.J. Aylward". Marine painting depicitng a Type C2 cargo ship, designed by the United States Maritime Commission, ship's name on side of vessel reading "DONALD McKAY" for noted master shipbuilder Donald McKay (Canadian/American, 1810-1880), on a choppy sea. Framed approximately 18.25" x 26.25". Unframed approximately 17" x 25.125". Note: The SS Donald McKay like other cargo ships at the time were converted by the United States Navy for military service during World War II.
