Description
French Louis XVI style commode consisting of a grey and black marble top over a conforming base having two long drawers w/ floral inlays, circular pulls and gilt bronze escutcheons with wreaths. Inlaid canted corners, sides with inlaid vase and flowers, shaped center drop with gilt bronze garland mount, cabriole legs with bronze acanthus mounts to tips of feet. Oak secondary wood. Label underside second drawer with reference to French cabinetmaker, Pierre Antoine Veaux. However, the crude inlay of the vases on the case sides indicate some of the inlay is later or the case form may be later. Inscription "P.A. VEAUX" written inside the case on the bottom side of the top boards and on back side of the drawer near the lock. 33"H x 38"W x 17 3/8"D. Early 19th century. 2nd item - Pair of gilt bronze garland mounts.The back of one bronze mount. "DESR 81". 15" W x 3 1/2"H. 19th century. Provenance: Estate of Bill Zarnon, Gatlinburg, Tenn. Condition
Minor lifting of veneers and inlay. Reinforcing brace to rear left leg. Back of top drawer with an old patch section to the backside, second drawer with patch to underside of drawer. Other abrasions and losses, scattered wood fill. Some insect damage to secondary wood.
