Description
Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely Roman bronze fitting in the form of a horse head with an open mouth, perky ears,and incised mane. Horses were an important part of ancient Roman daily life. The military used horses extensively. They also played a critical role in agricultural communities, and of course, were used for entertainment in chariot races. This piece was probably a fitting for a military staff or weapon. Size: 1.75" L x 1.5" H (4.4 cm x 3.8 cm).
