William Richardson Davie (1756-1820) was a military officer and the tenth Governor of North Carolina from 1798 to 1799, as well as one of the most important men involved in the founding of the University of North Carolina. He was a member of the Federalist Party and is a Founding Father of the United States. Original antique engraved portrait of Gov. Davie, engraved by James B. Longacre (1794-1869) he was the fourth Chief Engraver of the United States from 1844-1869. The actual image is approx. 4-3/8 x 3-1/2 in. not including the engraved signature below. Paper size 10-1/4 x 6-1/2 in. Margins are very clean.
