Description: This is a rustic painted wood carving of eleven nuns. Believed to be Mexican folk art of a beloved small order of nuns. One larger nun in front may have been the Mother Superior. There are two pieces of crate wood nailed to one larger piece. Each figure is attached.
History: Mexican handcrafts and folk art is a complex collection of items made with various materials and intended for utilitarian, decorative or other purposes. In Mexico, both crafts created for utilitarian purposes and folk art are plentiful and widely used.
