Description: An example of a mid Victorian tipstaff carried by Police Inspectors in plain clothes. It has a brass crown and barrels with a turned ebony handle. The crown is solid brass.
History: The early English Police Officer's authority was represented not by a badge, but by a tipstaff. The tipstaff represented the officer's direct authority from the crown to make an arrest. There are considerable differences in style and materials

Condition
This Tipstaff is in excellent condition, ebony handle has no scratches or chips, the brass barrel is also unscathed. The crown has some polish residue within the recesses of the crown.
