Description: This pistol is 17 inches in length. The maker's name, "LAZARINO COMINAZZO" is engraved on the top center of the barrel. Covered in chiseled steel embellishments for which Lazarino Cominazzo was famous. The pistol has a pin-fastened, relief carved, European walnut stock decorated in engraved steel. The hand cut steel accoutrements feature a dragon's head surrounded within a floral motif on the trigger guard. The lock is hand chiseled depicting a person reclining and surrounded by vine tendrils, while the frizzen is decorated with the bust of a female Sphinx. Other steel engravings are found on the butt cap and finished in yet another dragon and floral scene. The pistol has a delicately pierced trigger and chiseled ramrod pipes.
History: This is a nice flintlock pistol made by the master Bresican gun maker, Lazarino Cominazzo. During the first half of the 17th Century the gunmakers of Bresica, Italy produced the finest and most beautiful weapons in Europe. The Bresican gunsmiths were particularly noted for their skill in chiseled steel embellishments. The finest Bresican firearms were made by the Cominazzo family. Lazarino Cominazzo was the most famous of the gun makers.

Condition
Very Good. The surface of the barrel and lock is smooth with only traces of pitting or age discoloration. The engraved markings on the barrel and lock plate are very sharp.
This gun has some flash pitting on the face of the frizzen. Engraving on the inlay is crisp and the edges of the chiseled decorations are sharp. The stock is in fine condition and shows minimal handling wear.
