Description: Mamluk style saber (C 19th century). The length of the blade is 28.5" with a single cutting edge and the touch mark of Lion Head Hills. The blade has no fuller in accordance to Mamaluk style blades. the entire grip and hilt are brass. The hilt is short at only 3.75". The pommel is curved to the right and terminates in the face of a lion. There are some branches and leaves engraved in the middle of the hilt.
History: A Mameluke sword is a cross-hilted, curved, scimitar-like sword historically derived from sabres used by Mamluk warriors of Mamluk Egypt from whom the sword derives its name. It is related to the shamshir, which had its origins in Persia from where the style migrated to India, Egypt and North Africa and the Turkish kilij. It was adopted in the 19th century by several Western militaries, including the French Army, British Army and the United States Marine Corps.

Upon inspection the sword is in good condition. Several small nicks to the blade and the tip, while pointed, is not very sharp. No scabbard with the sword.
