DESCRIPTION: Gabriel Godard (French, B. 1933). Oil on canvas. Bord de Riviere. Depicts stylized landscape. Signed and dated in lower right corner "G. Godard '65". In gilt wooden frame. Godard was born in 1933 in Lorraine. He started painting in 1950 with many of his initial works being figurative. Godard later changed his method and style, and his paintings since 1986 have become purely abstract. Godard is a School of Paris painter, meaning part of a group of artists working between World War I and World War II whose works has been acquired by the French government for the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. PROVENANCE: Purchased from Findley Assoc., New York City in 1966. From a prominent Kings Point, New York Estate. MEASUREMENTS:13" x 21-1/2". Overall with frame 14" x 22-1/2". CONDITION: Minor wear throughout including losses to gilding.
