Description
A RUSSIAN PARCEL GILT AND POLYCHROME PAINTED ICON OF THE VIRGIN OF KAZAN, 19TH CENTURY, egg and tempura on rectangular wood panel enclosing the traditionally rendered Virgin Mary with gilt halo above her covered head and robes in shades of red holding Christ as a child with hand raised in blessing on gold ground with black Cyrillic inscriptions within a red and brown banded border, reversing to a concave back affixed with certificates of authenticity attached by Cyrillic glyph stamped red wax seals. Height: 13 1/2" Width: 10 1/2" Depth: 1"
Condition
In good condition, with age cracks, losses of tempura, and chips, all expected and appropriate for the age of the work.
