A RUSSIAN PARCEL GILT AND POLYCHROME ICON OF THE ANNUNCIATION OF USTYUG ON WOOD, AFTER THE 12TH CENTURY ORIGINAL, NOVGOROD STYLE, LATE 19TH CENTURY, a scrolled arched frame with a lower plaque inscribed with Cyrillic writing, centering a scene of a gilt haloed Archangel Gabriel bearing lilies and gesturing in blessing, while visiting the Virgin Mary during her prayers, to share the good news, as a dove enters from an opening in the clouds overhead, and rays of light fall over the Virgin. Height: 20 3/4" Width: 17 7/8" Depth: 1 1/16"
Condition
Some inpainting and regilt throughout, mild wear to the pigments, otherwise in very good condition, wear commensurate with age.
