TWO VINTAGE ART DECO PERFUME BOTTLE PRESENTATIONS, CIRCA 1920, comprising a "Duska" red glass bottle for Langlois, circa 1928, in the form of a skyscraper, the square columnar flacon with stepped sides and centering a rectangular recessed front with parcel gilt paper label, topped by a square tiered black glass stopper, "France" marked underfoot, height: 4 1/2"; accompanied by a vintage "Book of Perfume" brass presentation for Cardinal, circa 1920's, in the form of a raised shelf housing a row of three books, with red enamel covers and spines, one cover reading "Book of Perfumes," the other featuring an outlined bouquet of flowers, the presentation opening to reveal three glass flacons, fashioned to represent books, each with rectangular red paper labels naming the perfumer and each scent, "Gardenia," "Chypre," and "Bouquet," under black dome screw caps, the base of the presentation stamped in black ink "Pat. Pend.," height: 3"; along with a "Le Kid" perfume bottle purse atomizer, for Marcel Franck, circa 1920, the brass base accented with mother-of-pearl, working spring mechanism, incised "Le Kid" over illegible marks, above "France," length: 3 1/2". NOTE: A virtually identical Langlois "Duska" red glass flacon was sold at Christie's Paris, "The ChĂ¢teau de Gourdon Collections," 29-31 March 2011, lot 452.
Condition
All flacons and atomizer in general good condition, with no apparent major cracks, chips, or repairs. The "Duska" bottle with a few minor scratches, the paper label partially worn away, emptied of original fragrance. Each of the small glass flacons presented within the "Book of Perfume" holder also emptied of their original perfume. The presentation with some patina, but in overall good condition. The "Le Kid" atomizer with working mechanism, as mentioned. Mother-of-pearl accent in excellent condition. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
