Description
F. FLAMAND (EUROPEAN SCHOOL 19TH CENTURY) A PAIR OF PATINATED BRONZE BUSTS OF INFANTS, each nicely detailed with wavy hair and pouting expressions, truncated at the shoulders and raised on a waisted rectangular pedestal centering recessed panels on a conforming molded plinth, one signed "f. flamand," on the reverse, one signed on right shoulder, casting differences. Height: 12 1/8" NOTE: A virtually identical pair were offered by Christie's, New York, "LE GOUT STEINITZ I," 19 October 2007, lot 43.
Condition
Good condition, light buildup in crevices. One bust is of later date, and while a good casting, close examination reveals its lighter weight, less finesse in the casting details (ex., the eyes), signature is on the flat side of the truncated right shoulder, whereas the other bust has the signature on the back, as well as a slight variation in the patination.
