Description
A very good set of four late nineteenth century carved marble columns circa 1870. Each having carved marble capital resting on a gradually tapered column. Raised on stepped plinth base. One column in multiple pieces and missing pieces.Ht: 80" Width: 12" Depth: 11"Provenance: From the Dining Room of the Henry C. Gibson house, 1612 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA circa 1870; demolished 1928. For an illustration one of the columns, please refer to page 67 of the book, The Opulent Interiors of the Gilded Age. Consigned by Robert Lockyer, stepson of John W. Merriam.
