Item Details
Description
Latin America, Guatemala, late 19th to early 20th century CE. Two fascinating human effigy wooden pipe bowls, each finely carved with a mustachioed male visage facing the same direction as the smoker, one with his eyes wide open, the other with heavy lidded closed eyes. The open-eyed gent has deeply set eyes highlighted with red pigment, bushy brows above, a protruding nose, nicely delineated ears, a grand mustache, full red lips, and a pointy chin. The other visage is somewhat somber by comparison, with closed eyes highlighted with a bit of white pigment and somewhat reductive features - a plain coiffure, a straight nose, slightly thinner mustache, and pursed lips. Both are in wonderful condition with metal bowls still inside. Custom museum quality stand. Size: larger pipe bowl measures 2.75" L x 1.125" W x 1.5" H (7 cm x 2.9 cm x 3.8 cm); 4"W x 2.75"H (10.2 x 7 cm) on stand.
