Description
Italy, east coast, Daunian, ca. 4th century BCE. A wonderful pottery dipper (kyathos) liberally decorated in deep brown over buff. Handle is in the form of an owl with wings outstretched, two smaller heads peeking over the sides, bowl section decorated with geometric patterns and small two headed birds. Just a wonderfully painted example!
Provenance: Ex: Porter collection, Chicago, IL acquired in the 1960's.
