Bio: Born into an incredibly artistic family, Emile Gruppe fostered his talents from an early age. In addition to being trained by his artistic father, he was also educated at the Hague in the Netherlands, and The National Academy of Design, as well as the Art Students League in New York City. He cited Claude Monet as one of his biggest artistic inspirations. Gruppe was best known for his Impressionistic portrayals of the harbors and houses of Gloucester, Massachusetts and similar New England coastal ports. He made his permanent studio in Gloucester and became a member of the Cape Ann School of Artists. Gruppe lived a long and prolific life, passionate about his art and about teaching future generations of artists.
