Description
Built circa 1875 of Calcutta cane in 6 strip construction. Originally in 1/2/3 format, the third tip has gone missing with age. Tips are short 1 inch and inch, respectively. Rolled and seamed unwelted ferrules, hexagonally shouldered to match the cane. Nickel silver all metal but cap and reel seat with sliding band. Seat is mortised to accept the reel, and the wide (7/8 inch) sliding ring is centrally double knurled. Above the knurl is "A.H. Fowler" in an upward arc, and below the knurl, in a downward arc is "Ithaca, NY". Grip is rattan apparently without the customary silk spiral. Guides are metal ring, and the rod is wrapped red with full intermediates. The rod has been completely and professionally restored. Pictured by Kerr, page 283. Non-original bag. From the Thomas C. Kerr collection of Historic 19th century fishing rods.
