THREE CHINESE CARVED SOAPSTONE FIGURES OF SHOU XING AND MAIDENS, REPUBLIC PERIOD (1912-1949), the soapstone statuettes celadon and yellow in color, comprising a frontal facing Shou Xing, God of Longevity, holding a peach in his right hand and a lingzhi branch in his left, heightened on a naturalistic and pierced sienna soapstone base reversing to incised "46" underfoot, height: 5 3/4"; accompanied by two maidens, each wearing long flowing robes and holding a wan shan, or court fan, up towards the opposing shoulder, each with hair in a loose chignon over a serene expression and downcast eyes, one heightened on a dark russet and yellow inclusion soapstone stepped base, height: 5 3/4"; the other on an iron red soapstone base, height: 6".
Condition
Soapstone figures in good condition, with no major cracks, chips, or scratches. Shou Xing does have a minor repair that is hardly noticeable. Apart from the incised number on the base of the Shou Xing figure, they remain unmarked. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
